Long list there, Peter. I am surprised (nee shocked) to find you have omitted Without A Trace which we consider to be the best show on TV at this moment. Yes, our TiVo is a little heavy on the police drama, but when we recently debated what our top show was, it was neck and neck between this and Alias. Anthony LaPaglia gives a wonderfully nuanced performance, and the music and cinematography is consistently top-flight.
Now that you've got room on the TiVo, you should give it a shot.
Posted by: Danny Novo on October 5, 2003 4:37 AMOmissions that surprised me a little:
NYPD BLUE: Not nearly as good as it used to be, but still good.
SCRUBS: About the funniest damned show on TV.
THE YOUNG AND THE RESTLESS: Oh, wait. I forgot Peter is not married and doesn't *have* to watch five-hour Saturday marathons of TY&TR. That Nickie is such a bitch.
Of course, Survivor is on at the same time as Scrubs, so I see where that poses a difficulty. We tape Survivor upstairs the old fashioned way; NBC MUST SEE THURSDAY is like a religion in our house.
More on your list:
6. Boston Public
Working in a real public school makes this one a bit hard to stomach. It just got too outrageous for me. I figure in a future episode some kid will bring in a bomb and threaten the school with nuclear armageddon (please don't tell me that's already happened.)
31. * "BOARD GAME"
Heh. You too?
42. * ARNOTT, DAVID
Good idea!
45. World Poker Tour
I had this Season Passed, but it got a little samey after awhile.
46. Queer Eye for the Straight Guy
My wife's current favorite show. She keeps eyeballing me through episodes. I fear she thinks I need the Queer Eye.
50. Las Vegas
Looked really interesting, but came on at the same time as Monday Night Football.
I watched the 2-part season finale of Without a Trace after the folks at www.teevee.org recommended it. I thought it was OK, but it didn't move me to Season Pass it (whereas their other recommendation, MI-5, did). Perhaps I'll give it a second chance.
I watch very few comedies. Even though I Tivo Malcolm in the Middle, I don't always watch them. The one or two episodes of Scrubs I saw when it first premiered didn't make me laugh at all. I've seen random episodes of NYPD Blue, but I can take it or leave it and choose to leave it. I agree that Boston Public has gone the way of all David E. Kelley shows-- off the deep end-- but Anthony Heald is just terrific.
Posted by: Peter Sarrett on October 5, 2003 12:22 PMFunny, I too watch far fewer comedies (and also tape Malcolm but rarely watch it--same with scrubs). A practical question (which may help you get down to 52): Are "19. America's Test Kitchen" and "26. America's Test Kitchen from Cook's Illustrated" actually different shows?
Posted by: David S on October 6, 2003 9:29 AMAlso, doesn't your *POKER catch World Poker Tour? And what is MOVIES + NINE QUEENS supposed to catch? Are there several "nine queens" movies?
If I seem overly curious, well... I got the latest Toshiba DVD/TiVo player for my birthday (sunday), so I'm in the pool now. The machine only comes with basic service, so I suspect I'll be upgrading (how can I not have that Season Pass feature?).
Posted by: Dave on October 7, 2003 2:28 AMOne of us. One of us. One of us...
I made the World Poker Tour pass before the POKER wishlist, and never bothered to delete the former. As for NINE QUEENS, there's only 1 movie. But since I have no idea whether, where, or when it will ever be broadcast, I set up a wishlist so that if it ever does the film will automatically be recorded for me.
